A Mount Ronan producer presentation and forum was held on-property on Monday the 13th of July 2015.
The major focus of the breeding program at Mount Ronan was highlighted. It is centred on the identification of the most efficient ewes in the flock. These ewes are able to reproduce up to 140% of their mating weight with progeny raised over a 100 day period, utilising best available pasture.
Not only are these ewes excellent mothers, they also possess the genes for fast early growth, strong constitution, fertility, lambing ease, quiet temperament, muscling and outstanding carcase attributes. The use of their progeny in self-replacing, specialist prime lamb enterprises will maximise profitability per hectare.
The establishment of the Mount Ronan Prime Lamb Producer Group was a major feature of the afternoon. Membership of the group will facilitate producer access to ‘leading edge’ knowledge and technologies within the lamb industry. Opportunities for product branding, trading between members and closer relationships with other sectors of the industry will result in greater marketing flexibility and better returns for producers.
