White Suffolk Genetic Progress

September 8, 2012 Guy and Joanne Uncategorized

Mount Ronan has held a wonderful reputation for the production of elite quality meat sire genetics since 1968. The White Suffolk breeding program has resulted in the production of extremely growthy, muscular and sappy commercial lambs which achieve processing weights very quickly. These lambs produce high yielding carcases which maximise financial returns for the producer.

The Mount Ronan White Suffolk flock is positioned at the very top of all White Suffolk flocks recorded on Lambplan (Terminal-23).

The genetic trend graphs below for Carcase Plus Index and Post-Weaning Eye Muscle Depth compare Mount Ronan White Suffolks with the national White Suffolk average.

The average eye muscle depth of the Mount Ronan White Suffolk flock on Lambplan is almost twice the depth of the Australian White Suffolk Lambplan average.

The tables below compare the average ASBVs for Mount Ronan White Suffolks to the national White Suffolk average.

The growth rate genetics of the flock are well above that of the White Suffolk Lambplan breed average for White Suffolk sheep tested on Lambplan across Australia. Birth weight genetics have the stud sitting on the breed average which means the lambs are born easily and grow muscle mass quickly.
